We open the church of Sant Francesc

Every Saturday in July, at eleven in the morning, the old Franciscan convent opens its doors and cloister to receive curious people and neighbors. The tour begins in the Gothic nave of the temple, where a guide reviews the history of this space founded in the 13th century and renovated in the 16th and 18th centuries. The great appeal, however, is the baroque altarpiece of the Virgin and Saint George that presides over the apse and that, thanks to this visit, can be seen calmly and closely.
The corridor will then lead you to the small cloister, a vegetable oasis unknown even to many Vilafranquins. During the visit anecdotes of the Franciscan community, the role of the convent in the French War and the subsequent expropriation are told. The tour ends in the old refectory, now converted into an exhibition hall where audiovisual works on the local heritage are often projected.
The initiative, promoted by the Tourist Service, wants to highlight a building that is not normally visitable and offer a different cultural proposal for summer weekends. Places are limited and prior reservation at the Tourist Office is recommended.
