Three Tombs of San Antonio

The cold of January does not stop the carts decorated with pine and garlands that turn three laps through the center of Vilafranca. Organized by the Sant Antoni Penedès Association, the festival keeps alive the blessing of pets and work animals in front of the basilica, with the distribution of blessed bread and the sale of tortillas of Sant Antoni. Horses, carriages and modern tractors coexist in a parade that attracts entire families and traditional candy stalls.
The Three Tombs recall the agricultural past of the town and open a festive cycle that will continue with the Aplec de Sant Pau and the Carnival. It is also a magnificent pretext to give prominence to equestrian entities and the gralla music that accompanies the entourage.
Despite the changes in urban mobility, the route respects the historical route and, at the end, riders and the public share vermouth in the surrounding bars, reaffirming the city as a regional meeting point.
