Sant Jaume Mountain Area

Next to the urban center of Vilafranca, the Mount of Sant Jaume has been transformed into a recreational space designed to enjoy nature without getting too far from the city. The project, promoted by the City Council, aims to harmonize social use with the conservation of the typical agricultural and forest biodiversity of the Penedès region.

The site is located in an old vineyard and mosaic estate with dry stone margins that, with respectful environmental management, has recovered olive and almond crops, aromatic flora and temporary water points for fauna. Paths of Saulón allow you to walk through the area among pines, oaks and vines, and discover interpretive panels on insectivorous birds, butterflies and the traditional use of medicinal plants.

For families and groups, picnic tables, brick barbecues with regulated grills, ecological toilets and two differentiated parking lots for cars and buses have been set up. A small bar-cafeteria, open during regulated hours, offers drinks and local products. Space reservations are managed online or by telephone (93 890 47 32 /674 053 976), which facilitates influx control and fire prevention.

Within the educational proposal, nature workshops, astronomical observation, orientation circuits and volunteer days to remove alien species are regularly organized. The visitor is invited to follow good practices: collect garbage, avoid loud music and respect the signs of the routes, especially in summer when the risk of fire is high.

The privileged location of Mount Sant Jaume, less than five minutes by car from the centre of Vilafranca, makes it a living classroom for schools and a haven of fresh air for the inhabitants of the wine capital, who find here a green counterpoint to urban activity.
