Municipal and traditional markets of Vilafranca

Vilafranca del Penedès

Two stable indoor markets and a network of street markets — daily vegetables, Tuesdays in the Espirall, Sunday artisans, Sant Jordi roses, All Saints flowers and Christmas fairs — maintain a commercial thread that accompanies the festive calendar and ensures fresh produce all year round.

Vilafranca has two covered markets — Sant Salvador and La Carn — that operate from Monday to Saturday and guarantee fresh fish, zero kilometer meat and vegetables from the Pla del Penedès. The proposal is complemented by street markets: the daily Mercat de la Verdura in Plaça Sant Joan, the Tuesday Market in the Espirall neighborhood, the Market of Artisans Brocanters and Painting (second Sunday of the month, from October to May), the Roses and Books Market for Sant Jordi, the Flower Market for All Saints and the Christmas fairs (Santa Llúcia) and Reyes.
Each market adds seasonal nuances: in April, the square fills with the scent of roses; for All Saints, chrysanthemums paint the cemetery with color; in winter, stalls of tions and nativity figurines entrust Christmas warmth.
This calendar of small markets gives continuity to the commercial vocation that gave birth to the town in the 12th century, ensuring that every week there is a reason to go out, buy and exchange stories at the foot of the stop.
