Since the middle of the 19th century, the Fairs de Maig (Fairs de los Enamorats) have been the great economic showcase of Vilafranca and the entire region. For three days, the fairground concentrates more than two hundred automotive, agricultural machinery, renewable energy, services, crafts and gastronomy companies, turning the city into an anthill of business and discovery.
The fun part is not forgotten: in the program we find the castle day of the Fairs de Mayo —with the three local groups making pineapple—, sports exhibitions, product tastings, children's space and outdoor concerts that extend the evening. The open nature of the fair is also reflected in the free admission and the desire to be a meeting point for proximity trade and technological innovation.
Over the years, the May Fairs have been able to reinvent themselves, incorporating food-truck areas, entrepreneurship spaces and informative sessions on sustainability. But they retain the essence of the multisectoral market that was born at a time of wine expansion and that continues to reflect the industrial and commercial vitality of Vilafranca.
