Since 1994, the gralles multiply in April: workshops, parades, concerts, a luthiers fair and tributes to veteran musicians make Vilafranca the unofficial capital of this instrument. Organized by the Coordinadora de Grallers de Vilafranca, the Graller Day brings together groups from all over Catalonia and claims the gralla in both the traditional repertoire and the new compositions.
The program combines technical sessions for performers — tuning, construction, repertoire — with festive processions that fill every corner of the city with touches and arpeggios. The educational atmosphere and the playful dimension attract audiences of all ages and a unique craft linked to castles and the Festa Major is consolidated in Vilafranca.
As a culmination, the Plaça de la Vila hosts a great concert where hundreds of crickets play at the same time, an exciting moment that shakes the pavement and the heart of any Vilafranquí.
