The small Chapel of Sant Joan, in the square of the same name, is a Gothic delight of the 14th century linked to the Order of the Hospital. A single rectangular nave, covered with embigate on pointed diaphragmatic arches, culminates in a polygonal apse of six locks. The main façade displays the rosy, semicircular arch door and an octagonal bell tower crowning it; a modernist lattice-framed garden by August Font (1887) completes the scene.
Two unique details rest on the interior walls: a gothic lavatory with a heraldic shield and a beautiful Romanesque baptistery in the shape of an angel — pieces rescued from other places and incorporated during the restoration of the 19th-20th centuries directed by Jeroni Martorell. In 1929 the tower was modified and the old spade was removed.
Desacralized, the chapel served as an economy during the Civil War and, since 1944, has been dedicated to cultural uses: concert hall, exhibitions and, above all, stage of Vilafranca choral music.
