Cal Bolet Municipal Theatre

In 1886, the push of civil society erected an elegant “Main Theater” in the historic center. With the change of ownership at the beginning of the 20th century it adopted the popular name of Cal Bolet, surname of the family that ruled it. In 1982 the City Council acquired it and promoted its rehabilitation as a municipal theatre, preserving its eclectic façade and 386-seat stage.
The building combines traditional structure of load-bearing walls and wooden beams with modern stage equipment: black box, retractable pit, telescopic stand and state-of-the-art light and sound systems. The reform has respected original details, such as cast-iron moldings and railings, a reminder of its nineteenth century past.
Cal Bolet is today the heart of the Vilafranca scene: amateur companies, professional theater, dance and music cycles, film screenings programmed by the Cineclub Kubrick and festivals such as Jazz in Vilafranca coexist. The equipment gives space to schools, entities and rehearsals of the festamajoneros dances when the rain threatens.
With a management that emphasizes proximity and cultural education, the theater offers family passes and pedagogical activities for educational centers. Its light crosses the modernist windows and invites everyone to share the excitement of the live show.
