The Camí del Vi is a pleasant 3.5 km route that starts from the center of Vilafranca and goes smoothly towards the first hills of vineyards that flank the capital of the Penedès. Despite being outside the strict limits of Sant Sadurní, its proximity (15 minutes by train) and the shared theme make many visitors to the “Capital of Cava” do nothing to complete the wine tourism experience.
The route has eight interpretive stations with panels of modern design that explain the geology of the soil, traditional varieties, the cycle of the vineyard and the oral memory of the old taverns. Each stop invites you to reflect on the passage of time and includes QR codes with popular musical pieces or fragments of literature that evoke work in the field.
The signage is clear, has no significant differences and is suitable for families. The circular route allows you to combine the walk with a visit to the Vinseum —Museum of Wine Cultures of Catalonia— located at the starting point. For the early risers, the early morning light creates a golden atmosphere over the vines, while in the evening the silhouettes of Montserrat are cut on the horizon.
Vilafranca also offers the possibility of linking the Camí del Vi with other routes of the Penedès 360º project or with visits to wineries that are less than fifteen minutes walk away, which makes this proposal an ideal gateway to wine tourism for those who have little time.
Despite its modest length, the Camí del Vino adds an undeniable pedagogical value: it is an open-air showcase that highlights the intimate relationship between city and countryside, and places the visitor before the evidence that each glass of wine is the result of a long human and environmental chain.
