Born from the commitment of the municipalities of Mediona, Sant Quintí, Sant Pere de Riudebitlles, Torrelavit, Sant Sadurní and Subirats, the Camí del Riu is a signposted route of 43 km that links three river corridors: the Mediona-Riudebitlles, the Anoia and the Lavernó. Sant Sadurní, the geographical and logistical heart of the route, acts as the main gateway thanks to its Rodalies station and the tourist services linked to the cava.
The trail, proposed to be traveled on foot (medium difficulty) or by bicycle (low difficulty), follows locks, paper mills, industrial colonies, 19th-century farmhouses such as Can Mas de la Riera and unique geological elements such as the coral reef of Serralet, 16 Ma. The itineraries are available in KML files and can be followed with Google Maps or Wikiloc.
Each municipality contributes its essence: in Torrelavit, the “paper path” and the irrigated orchards; in Sant Pere, locks full of aquatic life; in Sant Quintí, the Fountains of the Gods; and in Sant Sadurní, the modernist cellars of Codorniu, the lake and monumental oak of Can Codorniu and the historic Colònia Pons.
The journey is not without risks. The heavy rains of September 21 damaged entire sections and, while they are not restored, passage through certain points is discouraged. Nevertheless, the objective of the project — to highlight the culture of water and raise awareness about the importance of rivers — remains firm and is complemented by pedagogical activities and ephemeral architectural interventions led by the Elisava School.
Access: by road (AP-7, C-15) or train (R4, Sant Sadurní and Lavern-Subirats stations). Information services are located in the Tourist Office of Sant Sadurní and in the respective municipal offices. The path is free and free, without timetables, and invites you to discover a mosaic of vineyards, forests and industrial heritage that define the Alt Penedès.
