The Sports Zone of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia is the great sports lung of the capital of cava, a municipal area located next to the Paseo de Can Ferrer that concentrates most of the facilities dedicated to the practice of physical activity in the municipality. The Sports Service of the City Council assumes the integral management and promotes it from club training to community health programs, which makes it an intergenerational meeting point and a real revulsion for the associative fabric of the Sadurnines.
The space, cardioprotected and adapted for people with reduced mobility, houses the Municipal Swimming Pool —where in summer the popular “Bibliopiscina”, a reading service on the lawn, is organized—, multisport courts, racquet areas, green areas for outdoor functional training and indoor rooms where directed activities are carried out. The open configuration of the venue makes it easy for each entity to find its place: from skate hockey, basketball or futsal clubs to the most alternative proposals of yoga or maintenance gymnastics for the elderly. In addition, the direct connection with several rural roads in the area makes it easy to link the practice of sports with hiking or cycling routes between vineyards.
The history of the Sports Zone is linked to the urban growth of Sant Sadurní during the second half of the 20th century, when the need to centralize dispersed facilities and to offer quality infrastructure to an increasingly active population was detected. Since then, the City Council has been expanding and modernizing the complex: efficient irrigation systems have been installed, pavements have been renovated and, in 2025, it was officially declared a “Cardioprotected Space” with the placement of several defibrillators accessible to the public. The result is a sustainable sports enclave, welcoming and equipped with the essential services (changing rooms, bar-cafeteria, bicycle parking and hydration points) that, at the same time, acts as the stage for specific events: from the Sadurninenc Sports Festival to storytelling workshops in the pool or environmental awareness days.
Today, the Sports Zone symbolizes Sant Sadurní's commitment to a healthy lifestyle and social cohesion. Whether to take a relaxing bath in the summer, play a game with friends or simply enjoy a quiet walk through its landscaped streets, this open and nearby venue reminds visitors that sport is also part of the soul of a village that, despite being known worldwide for its cava, maintains physical activity as one of its best collective toasts.
