Fountain of Fideué

Sant Sadurní d'Anoia

In the Canaleta, the Fideué Fountain pours a permanent flow that nourishes an irrigation pond closed with wire for safety. The water, not suitable for consumption, maintains traditional orchards while reeds and reeds weave a natural refuge near Sant Sadurní.

In the orchards known as “la Canaleta”, near the BP-2427 road, we find the Fideué Fountain: a constant trickle that drains into a small pond before filling an irrigation pond of about 4 × 1.8 m. Currently, the sheet is protected by a wire fence and an insulating canvas to prevent accidents and minimize evaporation.
According to Manel Córdova's 1999 description, the emergence never dries up, a rare occurrence in soils as carstified as those of the Penedès. The water, however, is not considered potable and its use is exclusively agricultural and landscape.
Scots and American cane thrive around, which must be clarified periodically so that they do not drown out the catchment. The vegetables of La Canaleta take advantage of the flow to irrigate tomatoes and bean plants, keeping alive a tradition of small orchards that has been complementing the ubiquitous vineyard for centuries.
The fountain is easily accessible and the path that connects it with Sant Sadurní d'Anoia is quite frequented by walkers. It does not enjoy specific protection or furniture, but it is a small green lung within an intensive agricultural space.
Fideué shows us how farmers have been able to navigate to the last ray to make it useful. The space demands respect: the fences are there to preserve the safety and quality of the water, and it must be left as we found it so that it continues to irrigate the small local vegetable garden.
