The small town of Can Catassús is dressed in colors every 15 and 16 August to celebrate its Festa Major, a proximity meeting that combines traditional devotion with recreational activities designed for all ages. The streets are decorated with garlands and banners made by the neighbors, and the central square hosts most events, all for free.
The program starts the evening with the ringing of bells and a popular dinner based on sausage and bread with tomato. Then the young bands prepare a live music session that often drags on well into the morning. The next day, the solemn mass in honor of the Assumption opens the day and gives way to children's games, inflatable games and Catalan bowling championships.
The Festival Commission, formed entirely by volunteers from the neighborhood, ensures that there is no shortage of traditional chocolate, burnt havaneras or a pyrotechnic party ending that illuminates the vines that surround the nucleus. All this reinforces the cohesion of a community that, despite its small size, keeps the Sadurninac identity alive.
The family spirit of the Festa Major de Can Catassús invites visitors from other neighborhoods to discover, in a relaxed atmosphere, the charm of this wine-growing corner. The absence of paid activities, intergenerational participation and the vindication of popular culture make the celebration an example of an authentic and sustainable village festival.
