When Corpus arrives, Sant Sadurní is amicably divided into seven neighboring territories —Barric El Raval, Barric Montserrat, Barric City Council, Barric Església, Barric Sant Antoni, Barric La Plaça Nova and Barric La Industria— that compete in ingenuity, color and music. Each adorns streets and balconies with carpets of flowers, banners and boxwood arches, while sporting a repertoire of its own symbols ranging from grapes to modernist motifs.
For eight days, the program combines masses, processions, children's games, gastronomic contests and popular dinners in the fresh air. The culminating moments are the lighting of the joint rally, the inter-district football tournament and the parade of parades that, with a lot of humor, reviews the current municipal events. Music sounds around the clock: dance orchestras for the most veterans and emerging groups for the young, not to mention the morning parade of gralleros that awakens the neighbors with the smell of cake and chocolate.
Instituted in the 1960s but with older roots, the Festa dels Barris encourages social cohesion and family participation. The City Council provides logistical support, but it is the commissions of each neighborhood that organize events and finances through raffles and bar bars. The flags of the neighborhoods fly on the facade of the consistory until, on the last day, the points are counted and the winning neighborhood is proclaimed, which will enjoy honor and panties until the next edition.
