Fairs and Festivals of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia

Sant Sadurní d'Anoia

In the first half of September, Sant Sadurní erupts with its Fairs and Festivities: pregó, correfoc with La Bèstia, concerts, exhibitions, castle days and the spectacular Festa de la Fil·loxera fill squares and streets. Tradition and innovation coexist in a week of popular culture, vintage and brotherhood.

Every beginning of September, coinciding with the beginning of the harvest, the town turns around to celebrate the traditional Fairs and Festivals. For an entire week — the hottest and most emotional of the year — the villa is dressed up with lights, garlands and the smell of gunpowder to host more than a hundred events designed for all ages. The starting shot is given by the proclaimer from the consistorial balcony, and then the thunderers fire salutes that resonate between the modern and neo-centrist roofs of the historic center.

The official programme combines heritage events — such as the opening march, the fire parade with the devils Se m'n Refum and La Bèstia, or mornings with gralleros — with proposals for a new batch: concerts in the Athenaeum, DJ sessions in the Plaza Nova, popular culture exhibitions and spaces for the scoundrel. Temporary exhibitions are inaugurated in the Cava Centre and the cloister of the Library becomes an art gallery, while the Celler Gran de Codorníu hosts the traditional Concert of Fairs that marries cobla, choir and symphonism under modernist vaults.

One of the most anticipated moments is the day of September 8, a local festival and the highlight of the celebration: a dance hall with percussion, mass major, popular aperitif and, above all, the integral spectacle of the Festa de la Fil·loxera, which is performed in the streets and attracts visitors from all over the Penedès. The next day, on the 9th, there is the castle day and the first official departure of La Bestia, the two-headed braw of draconian appearance.

The Fairs and Festivals also have a solidarity and inclusive aspect: the City Council reserves accessibility zones for people with reduced mobility, promotes selective collection and offers reusable materials in the bars of the square. In addition, an online ticketing system has been implemented since 2024 to reduce queues and paper. Thanks to the work of the Festival Committee and the involvement of the residents, each year new features are introduced without losing the essence: crowded alleys, gralla music, the aroma of new wine and that shared pride of being the cradle of cava.
