Ethnographic collection of the Blancher Caves (Blancher Museum)

Sant Sadurní d'Anoia

The Blancher Museum presents sixty machines from the cava process, period advertising material, forty photos of the construction of the cellar and 75 devices from the historic Radio VICA. Installed in the lobby of the Caves Blancher, it integrates technology, graphic art and family memory in a wine tourism visit.

Right in the lobby of the Blancher Caves, founded in 1955, the visitor is greeted by an industrial memory museum inaugurated to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the winery. On a perfectly preserved hydraulic mosaic floor, sixty pieces are exhibited that illustrate the technological evolution of cava during the second half of the 20th century: small manual presses, stepping stones, corkers, bottle washers and sophisticated automatic labelers that already in the eighties guaranteed the regularity of the product.
The museographic story continues with a set of precision scales, greenish glass carafes and the first laboratory equipment that used the house to control the second fermentation. The walls, whitewashed and with original sanitary tiles, serve as a support for period advertising material: cava plates, modernist posters, tourist banners, silk-screened portholes and glasses that evoke the campaigns that made the brand popular in the 1970s.
Another area includes forty black and white photographs, dated between 1955 and 1960, where the Capdevila-Blancher family is seen lifting the underground cellar stone by stone. The images document the movement of land with carts, the construction of visible work arches and the placement of the first manual removal desks.
The great singularity of the collection, however, is the section dedicated to Radio VICA: seventy-five wooden and bakelite apparatus—radios, gramophones and first televisions—manufactured by the company that Patriarch Vicens Capdevila founded in 1930. This foray into family electronics connects with the will to innovate that will also mark the winemaking trajectory.
Historically, museumization makes visible the commitment of Antonio Capdevila Pujol and Teresa Blancher to unite tradition and modernity. The first commercial range (1959-1961) settled an elegant style that today still defines the cavas of the house. The museum, open to the public since 1995, reinforces the wine tourism experience by complementing the tasting with a sensory journey through the past.
The tour, which is fully accessible, ends in an old warehouse where audiovisual works on degorge and blending are shown, and where the prizes obtained in international competitions are exhibited. Each piece is documented with exhaustive files that specify the year of manufacture, origin and function, making the museum a centre of consultation for researchers of wine industrial heritage.
Thus, the Blancher Collection is not just a showcase of machinery; it is a choral tale of family entrepreneurship, graphic design and sound memory that explains why Sant Sadurní is synonymous with cava and innovation.
