“The secret of Sant Sadurní” is a family tourism proposal that invites you to rediscover the historic center of the capital of cava through gamification. Designed as a free digital gymkhana, the route begins under the emblematic arch of the Plaça del Pont Romà and travels, in just 1.5 km, the streets and squares that have witnessed the wine transformation of the town.
The narrative thread places the user in 1901, when phylloxera threatened to destroy Catalan vines. Through 12 geo-positioned puzzles, the participant becomes the protagonist of a search against time to discover the mystery that allowed to defeat the plague in Sant Sadurní. Each event is associated with a heritage space — modernist facades, old wineries, corners of popular memory — and combines historical tracks with challenges of observation and ingenuity.
The gymcana can be activated by scanning the QR code available at the Tourist Office or entering directly on the Gymkana Turística website. Once inside, the phone's GPS system unlocks the contents as the user approaches the marked points, guaranteeing an interactive experience adapted to the rhythm of each group. The recommended time is 70 minutes, but there is no limit: the route can be stopped to taste an ice cream or visit a local shop and resume afterwards.
Beyond its recreational value, “The Secret of Sant Sadurní” aligns with the municipality's sustainability objectives. By encouraging walking, it decentralizes tourist flows and highlights tangible and intangible heritage, from the first oenology laboratories to the oral memory of the neighbors. The initiative has received support from the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Penedès Tourism Promotion Consortium.
For families, for groups of friends or for the curious who want to know the town in a different way, this route becomes an urban “cami” full of surprises. And it is that, while solving riddles, the participants step on the real scenarios where the industry was forged that even today makes the world toast with Penedesian bubbles.
