Since 1997, on the first weekend of October the center of the capital of cava becomes the most sparkling wine in the country. The Cavatast is a tasting fair open to professionals and the general public where about thirty wineries — from large brands to microsmall producers — offer tastings of their freshly minted cavas, long aging and innovative blends.
White tents and high tables fill the Passeig de Can Ferrer, paired with gastronomic proposals from local restaurateurs: traditional Penedense cuisine, creative tapas, artisan cheeses and local chocolate. The visitor can purchase tasting tickets, drink in hand, and complete the experience with urban sketching workshops, live music sessions, showcookings and guided tours to emblematic cavas.
El Cavatast has become a showcase of excellence for wine tourism: the Tourist Office coordinates packages combined with the Cava Centre, bike trips between vineyards and special menus in the restaurants of the region. In addition, the event hosts the contest “Best Sommelier of Cava” and awards the Cavatast Prize to the winemaking career. In parallel, the Brotherhood of Cava organizes the Gala Dinner and the baptism of new brothers in the Codorníu cavas, reinforcing the institutional dimension of the event.
