Cava Week

Sant Sadurní d'Anoia

During the second week of October, the Sadurninenque cavas open their doors, popular toasts, galas, solidarity races and technical seminars are held: a true industrial and popular festival that projects cava to the world and turns the town into the effervescent capital of the Penedès.

Coinciding with the late harvest, the Brotherhood of Cava has been convening, for decades, a week full of events designed to exalt the bubbles that have made the town world famous. The cavas open for free on October 12 and offer guided tours, vertical tastings and demonstrations of manual deworming. The proclamation of the Queen of Cava takes place in the Town Hall Square — a title that has evolved into the figure of ambassador — and the traditional popular toast is danced there.

Other highlights of the calendar are the Solidarity Race between vines, the Gala Night at the Celler Gran in Codorníu —where new honorary confreres are named— and the parade of historic vehicles that, adorned with garlands of foliage, travel the main streets giving drinks to pedestrians. The professional field also has its space with technical conferences on sustainable vineyards and international markets.

La Semana del Cava adds efforts with local restaurants and pastry shops, which create ephemeral menus paired with different styles of sparkling wine. All this reinforces the image of Sant Sadurní as the productive heart of cava and retains visitors who, year after year, return to toast at the same point where the history of this sparkling wine beats.
