When summer arrives and the heat pushes to seek the coolness of the municipal swimming pool, the Ramon Bosch de Noya Library and the Sports Service join forces to turn the grounds lawn into a relaxed extension of the reading room. The Bibliopiscina service offers, from 29 June to 14 August, the possibility of leafing through newspapers, leisure and current affairs magazines or borrowing books and comics while enjoying a bath or a moment in the shade.
Users find, from Monday to Friday, a small wooden kiosk staffed by library staff that provides daily newspapers, collections of specialized magazines and a selection of light narratives designed for all ages. The service is offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. until 31 July, and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the first half of August, adapting to the times of maximum influx of families.
The initiative was born more than a decade ago as a formula to encourage reading among children and young people during school holidays. Over the years it has evolved into a small summer tradition that many Sadurninans look forward to: not only is material lent, improvised storytelling sessions, reading recommendations and spaces for relaxed conversation with the library staff are also organized.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Sports Service, the Bibliopiscina has tables, sun loungers and umbrellas that facilitate comfortable reading next to the glass of water. The loan works with the same card of the Municipal Library Network and allows you to take the documents home or return them anywhere in the region.
This fresh and close formula reinforces the image of an open and adaptable library, which goes beyond its walls to find citizens wherever they spend their free time. Year after year, the Bibliopiscina shows that culture can also wear swimsuits and flip-flops, and that a good book combines perfectly with the murmur of water and the smell of chlorine of the Sadurninian summer.
